Thank you for downloading the News Evaluation Extension. This page provides guidance for common issues that may come up when using the extension.

How do I get my participant ID? For most participants, you do not need to manually enter a participant ID during setup. The extension handles verification automatically. You may still be provided an assigned participant ID for study records and support follow-up. Keep it for your records.
How do I activate the extension?

What you do:

  1. Install the extension and open it from Chrome's extension menu.
  2. Wait for automatic ID verification to complete.
  3. If an ID input screen appears, enter the ID provided by the study team and click Submit.
  4. Read the study information screen and click I have read this information.

What the extension does automatically:

  • If validation succeeds, it loads your study configuration and moves you into the active extension flow.
  • If your assignment link already includes a valid ID, the extension pre-fills and processes it automatically.
Why is my ID not being accepted?

What you should check:

  • If you were asked to type an ID, enter the exact ID provided by the study team (no extra spaces or typos).
  • If you were not asked to type an ID and setup does not continue, wait briefly and then try reopening the extension.

What the extension is checking:

  • The extension sends your ID to the study validation service.
  • If validation fails, the extension will not activate and you may see a validation error.
  • If the service is temporarily unavailable, validation can fail even with a correct ID. Try again shortly.
How do I remove the extension from Chrome?

1) Remove it manually from the extension (first option):

  1. Open the News Evaluation extension.
  2. Use the in-extension remove option to start uninstall and confirm when prompted.

2) Remove it manually through Chrome (browser method):

  1. Open Chrome's extension menu (puzzle piece icon), find News Evaluation, and choose Remove from Chrome.
  2. Or open chrome://extensions, find News Evaluation, and click Remove.

3) Automatic uninstall is also enabled:

When the study period ends, the extension may trigger its own uninstall flow automatically. If removal does not complete, close and reopen Chrome, then try again from chrome://extensions.
