This Privacy Policy applies to the CSMaP News Evaluation extension provided by New York University’s Center for Social Media and Politics (CSMaP, “we,” “us,” or “our”). We are committed to protecting participant privacy.
What The News Evaluation Extension Collects
The News Evaluation extension collects browsing data and AI search interaction data from participants who opt in to a CSMAP study.
Collected data includes:
- URLs you visit.
- Search results you view on Google and/or AI assistants when you perform searches.
To participate, users complete the study survey and consent to data collection through the extension.
Participation
Participation is voluntary. You may refuse to participate or withdraw at any time without penalty. To revoke consent for any part of the study, email csmapsupport@nyu.edu.
Data Storage And Access
Data collected through the News Evaluation extension is stored in an encrypted PostgreSQL database on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Access is limited to approved researchers and app engineers. CSMaP does not share or sell participant data to commercial third parties. Data is anonymized and used only for research purposes.
